Communitatis

Change typically happens when stories and solutions are shared

Stories help us imagine the future differently. Stories create community, enable us to see through the eyes of other people, and open us to the claims of others.

Telling stories is our best hope of reflecting the kind of world we want to live in and, therefore, gives us hope of creating it.

Our story is in our name

Our name ‘Communitatis’ is a Latin word that means collaboration, partnership, fellowship, shared ownership and community – all values that underpin our work. Tatis is also in our name and in our story.

Tatis time originated as an in-team name for time spent sharing, shaping and sharpening our own thinking on problems like neighbourhood safety, youth and criminal justice, health and addiction systems.

We soon started using tatis time to test our thinking with trusted experts on systems change, community-based trauma, and design and user engagement methodologies.

Tatis shines a light on key strategic issues in ways that resonate with the people we work with – individuals, groups and sub-populations who want to contribute towards truly amazing transformations in society.

Now we operate almost entirely in a tatis time zone: making space for people to think differently, deeply and innovatively about the systems they operate in and their organisation’s strategic journey so we can create tangible, positive and lasting change.

Collaborative conversations

Our aim is to foster collaboration through active listening and observation, active sharing and participation.

Open to challenge, we address challenges that are addressable and resolve conflicts that are resolvable.

Through the power of collaboration we:

  • Transform lives and create lasting change
  • Develop new ways of solving longstanding systemic problems
  • Produce new innovations that can be adopted, adapted, reviewed and replicated at scale.

Collaboration also happens through the written word when we write and share change stories and strategies, as well as business cases, funding proposals and campaigns.

Meanwhile, we love the collaborative potential of drawing. Whether drawing in representatives from small local groups or drawing on lived experience, systems need people with diverse experiences and mindsets to be there and be involved.

And let’s also not forget the importance of drawing wacky diagrams that create a vision of the future and help people to work together to turn that vision into reality.
